ARCHIVE: Blackberry Storm – Release Dates – Out in Time for Christmas

UPDATE – Click here for UK Blackberry Storm Pre-Order Details

The new Blackberry Storm will be out in time for Christmas, Vodafone have announced. They signed an exclusive deal for the Blackberry Storm, which has a touch screen and is i-tunes compatible. The Guardian reported on it this morning:

Vodafone will put pressure on Apple’s iPhone today with news that it has clinched an exclusive deal to offer the first touchscreen phone made by the mobile email specialist BlackBerry in time for Christmas.

The BlackBerry Storm, which has a revolutionary “clickable” touchscreen that prevents a user accidentally sending an email or making a call just by touching the screen, will be free for anyone willing to sign up with Vodafone to a £35-a-month contract. A pre-pay version is also being planned.

The device is aimed squarely at consumers rather than the corporate market, which is already dominated by BlackBerry devices. It faces serious competition at Christmas from the Apple phone and two other recently announced touchscreen devices: the G1, which uses Google’s Android software and is exclusive to T-Mobile, and the 5800 XpressMusic from Nokia, which Orange confirmed last night it would be stocking, although it is unclear if it will be out by Christmas.

The Blackberry Storm is out for Christmas - exclusively through Vodafone

Here’s what Vodafone have to say about the Blackberry:

Blackberry Storm smartphone puts incredible touch-sensitive power in your hands. Feel the screen respond instantly to your touch and sense the subtle feedback on your fingertips with every keystroke…

Choose a full QWERTY on-screen keyboard in landscape mode or switch to SureType messaging in portrait.

The Storm has a built in device that will automatically change to portrait or landscape mode depending on which way up you hold the screen. The touch-type system is completely unique, with the screen responding to pressure rather than light taps. The new Blackberry will also feature applications for Facebook, MySpace and Flickr. It has bluetooth and GPS but no wi-fi. It does have full roaming capabilities (dual-mode functionality) and full HTML browsing (but no flash). Of course there’s the usual camera and video features.

The Blackberry Storm is not yet available, but will be appearing very soon in the Vodafone online store. Click here to watch the demonstration.
