ARCHIVE: Emmerdale

Friday, 26 December 2008, 6:30PM – 7:00PM ITV1

Just Jenufa – the unlucky operatic heroine – Victoria finds a baby’s body under the ice in the lake.

Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) returns home from a night in hospital and Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) worries because she’d been screaming in her sleep. Discussing her fears about Victoria’s mental state with Daz (Luke Tittensor) and Andy (Kelvin Fletcher), Diane doesn’t notice that Victoria hears everything, seething at the low regard in which she is held. When Victoria refuses to eat anything, Diane becomes more concerned and tells Val (Charlie Hardwick) who warns Daz that it could be his fault she’s feeling down. He guiltily confronts Victoria and she reveals that the reason she’s been so frightened is that there is a dead body in the lake. Daz can’t conceal his astonishment, but will he believe Victoria?

Meanwhile, the guests turn up to Home Farm for the event, but Jamie (Alex Carter) is immediately ill at ease when Rodney (Patrick Mower) becomes distracted by one of their wives. Rodney tells him to butt out but Jamie continues to worry when one of the guests tries to book a meal in the Woolpack, certain that one of the Kings will be there. Rodney covers himself by asking Marlon (Mark Charnock) to prepare some meals at the B&B. Although the shoot is going well, Jamie and Zak (Steve Halliwell) are annoyed to find out that Rodney has been ripping them off when Lee (Lewis Linford) laughs at the rate they’ve been given for game keeping. Zak vows to make sure that Rodney gets his just desserts.

Also, Ashley (John Middleton) is informed that the church will only remain open till a new buyer is found. Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) takes Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) for a celebratory drink and feels for her friend when she sees how much Nicola misses David (Matthew Wolfenden). Nicola admits to Laurel that she is enjoying being the nice guy for once and vows to help save the church. However, Ashley worries that she may go too far in her efforts to impress.
